As a 50 year-old taking up golf for the first time in my life, I decided that lessons from a PGA Pro might just be a good idea. I was fortunate enough to meet Adrian Ponce at my local driving range and immediately set up a series of lessons. Adrian turned out to be an excellent instructor. His use of video analysis helped me see exactly how my swing errors shaped my ball flight patterns. Adrian understands that people have different physical strengths (strong arms, broad shoulders, etc.). He assesses your physical assets and teaches you to take advantage of them. I like the way he focuses on fundamentals of the game without trying to make your swing a carbon copy of anyone else’s.
Most importantly, Adrian is a natural-born teacher; his explanations and instructions are clear and concise, his critique is always constructive, and he has infinite patience with his students, and, yes, he even gives you homework. In addition, Adrian is just a nice guy with a great sense of humor (which you better have if you’re going to teach golf!). Since I first began working with him last season, I have played a total of 14 rounds and have never had a score higher than 95 (and three rounds in the upper 80s on a fairly challenging course)–not bad for a first-year player. My game still has a very long way to go, but I now approach golf with greater confidence because of Adrian’s coaching. In short, I recommend Adrian without hesitation or qualification to anyone who wishes to improve their game.
